I think it's time we had a good traffic lights thread. Allow me.

For this summers vacation, I was in Spain. While driving from Sweden to Spain (through Denmark, Germany and France), I could hardly escape the differences in road equipment.
Regarding the traffic lights: Where I come from, the lights are red. So I stop. And wait. Then, the yellow light turns on, pause, and the red and yellow light goes out as the green lights up. Roar! When the first car has crossed, the green light goes out as the yellow lights up, pause, and the red lights up as the yellow extinguishes.
The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain (a load of LIES!), and the traffic lights are in the towns. First, they are green ... No, let me rephrase that: The green light is on, which is nice. If you wait long enough, the red turns on much the same way as I described above. After a couple of seconds, theredlightturnsofandthegreencomesonsofastyou'llmissitifyoublink! Then we wait until the spaniards in the front row get their head around this and start moving. Maybe I should express that a little clearer: They are s-l-o-w to start moving. Whenever I wound up in the front row, I was never (ever) anything but first to move (And this was in a rented car where I never really became true friends with clutch and first gear). Which I find strange, considering the eagerness with which the traffic moves at all other times.
