Getting the pliers requires setting off what, IMO, is the most complex chain of events in the whole game. I'll start you off.

Every time you move a piece of furniture in the hut, examine the area. Something useful will turn up.

You need to: get past the two felines in the garden,
demand everything you can from the old guy in the castle,
search a building you just drove a tractor through,
pander to a vain mermaid,
go buy a bucket,
and satisfy a puppy's sweet tooth.

Yeah, I know. Let us know when you get specifically stuck on one of these. :)
