614. Selling RinkWorksTo: rinkworks@rinkworks.com Subject: Question about online entertainment Date: Fri, 19 Mar 2010 13:21:48 -0700 Hi Samuel, I found Rink Works while I was doing some research on online entertainment. I really like what you have done with the site and you have some great content. The reason I'm emailing you is I'm working on a website project and I was trying to get ideas. When I found your site, it was very close to what I had in mind for my site. I'm not all that great at putting together all the information to start a new website, so I wanted to ask you a somewhat "strange" question and I hope I don't offend you by asking - Would you be interested in selling your website to me? I don't expect a "yes" or "no" response right away since I'm sure this isn't the kind of question you were expecting right now. If you want to discuss the idea, please let me know and we can talk about it further. The way I see it, we would both win. You will get a lump sum cash payment up front and I will get an already up and running website that I can tweak to meet my needs, which will save me time vs building my own website from scratch... Anyway, please let me know your thoughts on the idea. I really appreciate your time. To: Samuel Stoddard <sam@rinkworks.com> Subject: Re: Samuel is this still your email? Date: Sat, 27 Mar 2010 17:34:15 -0400 I'm very interested in talking with you about buying rinkworks.com.? I know this may seem like a strange offer out of the blue and I'm not expecting a "yes" or a "no" right now, I just hope we get the chance to talk about the possibilities. I look forward to hearing back from you Samuel. From: Samuel Stoddard <sam@rinkworks.com> Subject: Re: Samuel is this still your email? Date: Sat, 27 Mar 2010 19:34:15 -0400 I'm not interested in selling. I admit I'm curious what you might have been willing to pay, and would be interested if you care to share. But I'm pretty confident that I would not sell the site at any price. Too much of the content has personal value to me to give it up, at any price. Sorry. -- Sam. He wrote back and said he understood, but maybe we could come to an agreement, for example that I'd stay on to "manage" to the site and could keep a personal copy of it. I said no again and repeated my reasons. Three months later, he emailed again, asking if maybe I'd changed my mind since we spoke last. I ignored him. Then, another few months after that.... To: Samuel Stoddard <sam@rinkworks.com> Subject: Samuel...any changes with rinkworks.com? Date: Mon, 18 Oct 2010 17:01:43 -0400 Hi Samuel, just checking in with you to see if anything has changed with regard to selling rinkworks.com. I'm still looking for a good online entertainment website to buy. I'm open to options and I'm sure we can come up with a mutually beneficial deal. In general you would get a lump sum cash payment and I would get an already up and running website about online entertainment. Anyhow, I would like to talk with you more about it or any ideas that would work for you. I look forward to your reply. Thank you. Look, I've already said I'm not selling to you. Not for any price. Stop emailing me. From: Samuel Stoddard <sam@rinkworks.com> Subject: Re: Samuel...any changes with rinkworks.com? Date: Tue, 19 Oct 2010 12:05:47 -0400 Thank you for your reply and I understand, sorry to have bothered you. In a previous email you had mentioned you were a bit curious but the site has a lot of personal value to you and it would be tough to see selling it. Without being able to talk with you more about the details, it's hard for me to put a price and I hate to put too low of a price without knowing more, but to throw a number out there I'm thinking it could be $10,000 or more. There are multiple options, like you keeping all your content that I know you worked hard on and have a personal attachment to. In any event if you are curious to know or talk more, please just let me know. It's kind of funny that he even thought $10K would impress me. He was almost certainly hoping I didn't understand the value of Internet domains. Not mine in particular, mind you, but in general. $10K is practically insulting, even if ALL he got for it was the domain name -- and I'm 99% certain that's all he was after. The story about him wanting to run an entertainment site is nonsense. He wants to own advertising space. I told him as much, albeit politely, and told him he'd have to increase his offer by three orders of magnitude -- dramatically beyond what the site is worth in pure business terms -- before I'd even want to start to consider it. |
