I think she's already caught the cat and given it to the arboretum people (hence her "Do I need to find it twice?" question).

ann: When you catch Delphine, you can give her to the guy in the arboretum, or to Caroline. The item you get from that depends on who you give it to, and the two items are interchangeable; that is, if you had given her to Caroline instead of the arboretum guy, you would have gotten the necklace instead of the ruby. In the place where you subsequently used the ruby, you would have used the necklace instead. If you gave the cat to the arboretum guy, you don't need to worry about the necklace.
