He didn't mean you had to hurt your leg. You've already met the person with the hurt leg. The hint was this: where would you go if you had a hurt leg and had to walk all the way out of the mines? To lie down somewhere nearby, maybe?

There is something to be found on the computers, but you actually don't even need to find it. You won't be able to do anything with it until you get past problem #1.
