The key to all of this is where to use your wire clippers (once you use them, I think a lot of your questions will be answered). Since you're been to see the Sage, I'm assuming you know where the Chasm is. You need to go either up or down it to get to where you use the clippers, but first you need to make it through a door-type-thing; just use all your options when you get to that. Hope that helps.
