I have run out of ideas for the moment.

I have: 9 Red Gemstones, Stone of Strengthening, Rope, Key of Opening, Crate, 1 Black Gemstone, Food Rations, Tinderbox, Portrait, Guard's Sword, Bucket, Wire Clippers, Clear Focus Stone

I know the wire clippers open a grate - but I can't find it.
I know that I need to make a torch to light up the dark part of the forest - I can't find the makeings of a torch.
I suspect that I need to buy a blanket from the linen women - how?
Other people appear to have found apples?????

Hints on these (or other strands) much appreciated.
