My aunt teaches in a private elementary school. They aren't paid for the summer either. However, as I understand it, in most of the schools she's taught in, they can opt to have the weekly paycheck amount adjusted so that they *will* receive paychecks throughout the summer, and it all works out even by the end of the year. I imagine it's better to get the money sooner and save it, but those who aren't good at saving money can force themselves to save it in that way.
