Must take exception with Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, the logic is
invalid as the dog is a metaphor.

Uh.  Sorry, but I don't see any problem whatsoever.  If Steinbeck
includes a metaphor in his work, I'm allowed to restate it in a summary.
