360. Bright Monkeys and Bell CurvesTo: <sam@rinkworks.com> Subject: Read about your site in "screenwriting" by ray frensham Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2005 07:20:06 -0600 Ray Frensham's paperback, Screenwriting 1996, 2003, mentions your website. in the "Teach Yourself" series of books. Website Review. OK. so I look at your site. OK. I've seen many many many many many more movies than you have seen because I'm, well, I'm many many many years older. relatively speaking. Hmm? I got Ray's point, on p 52,chapter 4. Hope you will find more actual depth in films in future reviews. Realize, please, your era of existence comes through, which actually seems to show a very response-limited humanity. Current bifurcations of the real world between haves and havenots do not fall on any real lines except a lack of intelligence. i.e.. Although, for example, SAT's, ACT's change and become harder (more difficult as events, time, change occurs) the effort is to fit all bright monkeys under the bell curve. The idea of forcing a mathematically statistical interpretation upon all humanity simply demonstrates our splitting all into positive and negative statistical increments, and it limits even our perception of ourselves and our works. That is, half the people are smart, lucky, better than average, and half are dumb, unlucky, less than average. Many of the films you have reviewed and described are a whole lot more complicated than rendered. Sure, I can see a resemblance or a minor perspective of the content. And the fact that most of us are alive has to do with actual content of science, not of emotional interactions with the world. Survival for a short span requires a more than superficial dalliance in the real world with real things; and some of those are devastating. Can you actually believe half of the country voted for Bush? Do you realize how long it will take to undo the damage both recent democratic and republican administrations have done. The US may not ever fully recover, but suffice it to say that the sob's got theirs, but not their just deserts. Why don't you condense the last 10 years of American politics into your movie reviews. . ? enjoyed you website. I don't know what the guy's talking about. I haven't seen the book he mentions in the coherent part of this email. But it would crack me up if the feature he's talking about is Movie-A-Minute. |
