Date: Mon, 21 Jun 2004 01:25:50 +0100 (BST) I have not visited the Dialectizer in a long time... I checked this evening, and the Ebonics portion is gone! I hope you did not remove that section for "politically correct" reasons... it was hilarious. If that is what happened, it would seem to contradict your position statement on racism and discrimination, posted on the site. I enjoyed the Ebonics Dialectizer because it was funny... and it was funny, in part, because it is all too real. But it is not funny for racist reasons... I find the Redneck Dialectizer equally amusing! I hope the Ebonics Dialectizer will return, or at least be made available separately. For the record, I never had an "ebonics" dialect. The "jive" dialect, an older form of the same sort of thing, has always been there. I like how liking the redneck dialect equally is a counterargument to a (nonexistent) charge of racism. Strangely enough, I've probably gotten more complaints about the redneck dialect than the jive one. |
