i am the daughter of one of the owners of CE DE candy, the makers of
smarties.  i was sorry to hear that some of you do not enjoy our candy and
feel that they are the left overs of some sort of other candy.  i just wanted
to let you know that this was the creation of my grandfather and it has
remained a family business for over 50 years now.  we believe that smarties
are a wonderful candy, by no means the left overs of anything and that they
have been enjoyed by children all over the United States and Canada.  Also,
smarties are not the only candy which we sell.  we also sell the candy
necklaces (the pastel ones not the cheap florescent imitations made in mexico
or china) which i am sure you all just adore.  so i am sorry that some of you
do not enjoy our candy but to those of you who do... thank you for continuing
to eat it and for spreading the word in your chat room.

I love this email, though it actually made me feel bad about trashing Smarties. Just goes to show, you never know who's listening out there.
