117. Ole Man TateTo: ss1@tank.dreamhost.com Subject: Opps Date: Wed, 6 Jun 2001 08:07:07 EDT LOL anyway I wanted to ask how you translated my husband's name, Aaron, into Ole Man Tate using the Redneck one? I'm curious how you knew his last name To: ss1@tank.dreamhost.com Subject: Re: Opps Date: Wed, 6 Jun 2001 09:08:17 EDT My son Ethan translated to Ole Man Tate Too This one is great. The Dialectizer's redneck dialect translates instances of "Aaron" and "Ethan" into "Ole Man Tate." (It has translations defined for a number of first names.) But here's a woman whose husband is actually named Aaron Tate and whose son is named Ethan Tate. Initially, she just typed "Aaron" in and was surprised to see "Tate" included in the translation. I replied and explained that any instance of "Aaron" or "Ethan" get replaced with "Ole Man Tate." Then the topper came in: her son is named Ethan, so he's Ole Man Tate, too. I suppose she could have been yanking my chain, but my guess is not. |
