96. * Australia vs. RinkWorksTo: ss1@tank.dreamhost.com Subject: Re: How to be persuasive Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 20:43:06 +1100 Samuel Stoddard at RINGWORMS.com What a professional company you run, if you will not take this complaint seriously I will be forwarding it on Monday to the Australian Tourism Commision, The Telecomunications Ombudsman and the Ambassodor of Australian Affairs. You should expect a reply as soon as the receive my internal memo. And yes I work for the Australian Government and will ensure that your statement is at LEAST retracted. Its up to you or your company not to offend an entire country, I am sure your company Ringworms does not need the bad publicity. Ken Lock This was the second email this guy sent me. The first, unfortunately, got deleted before I thought to save it. He was basically complaining at the portrayal of Australia in one of the sample arguments in "How To Be Persuasive." I chewed him out in my reply, championing that little thing called free speech, but also assuring him I held Australia in respectful regard, and that the things said about Australia were obviously meant in jest. This was the reply he sent back. Five years later, I'm still waiting to hear from the Australian Government, but I'm sure it'll be any day now. |
