FQ1 - Need Some Help

AHHHHHHHHHH!!!... I'm stuck and frustrated... any help would be appreciated.

Here's my inventory:

Sack
Branch
Shovel
Bow
Ticket
Carrot
Silver Key
Scroll
Arrow
Pass Ring
Rope
Gold Key
Hammer
Fishing Pole
Sunstone
Hook
Sword
Nails
Club

I know these passwords: "Tootle Cakes," "Peanut Butter," "Jello Bath," and "Sanguine"

I can't get past the Guardian in the Castle, I can't get into the Fortress or the Volcano, and the Tower keeps spitting me back out when I touch the bookcase... Also, what is the "Magic Tree" (Just east and north of the dead Orc) in the forest for... and do the boxes in the garage do anything or are they just there to be perplexing? Oh, and does the dog do anything besides play fetch?

I've been walking around rechecking every building I've been in and every creature I've talked to and repeating all my actions multiple times... what am I missing? (Its probably something really obvious, I'm sure) =]
