Help! The Mystery of Brackley Hall

I know I'm probably lame for getting stuck on that, but I am. I found some book that mentions a chinese rug which is in the study but I can't move it. I think the magpie may have something I need like a key because that is what the petstore said. There is something in a tree but I can't get to it. The hints say look in the house but I have tried everything in every room of the house and still can't find anything. HELP!
