You're probably going to have to ditch the nerds for the moment. Try taking them to the junkyard via the most obvious route to do that.

Your priority today is to get your course text books, meet your teachers and carry out their tasks. Do Prof. Major's first, it's simplest and your reward will advance the plot significantly. The nerds will become more useful on Sunday.
