I found this at a LotR web site

Received this today from an anonymous informant. Wojciech Kilar, who has
scored films like Apocalypse Now and Dracula, is in final negotiations for the
job of composing the soundtrack for the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

This could be good, the bit in Apocalypse Now with the helecopters shows that this guy knows how to use music in a movie.
