Game of ages need a clue bad!!!

My inventory -
14 gold coins
20 bronze coins
9 red gemstones
1 black gemstone
life preserver
guard's sword
stone of strenghtening
food rations
rope
tinderbox
sticks
string
key of opening
clear focus stone
piece of trash
map
hammer
magnifing glass
crate
Need a real good clue. I'm trying to climb down the side of the castle but the guard won't let me. Tried eveything !!!! Am I missing something? Can't get by the girls in the kitchen with the painting. What's with the apples? Could use alot of help. Please!!!!
