Experience in Murkon's Refuge

Say I have a character that has recently
obtained a "0 experience to go" for the next
level.

As I'm heading back to town for rest, I
encounter and slaughter a group of monsters,
gaining gold and more experience.

Does this extra experience count towards the
next level after or is it "lost?"
