Stuck in the past in St Mary's, please help!!! (maybe spoilers)

I have a dirty leaf, and no idea how to clean it. I don't have some of the stuff that other people seem to have, so here's my inventory:

time machine
blue paint
bottle
bottle cap
chain
chalk
cheese
disk with essay
disk with virus
eraser
glue stick
dirty leaf
lighter
mirror
scalpel (unsharpened)
shirt
slip of paper
smock
soldering iron
wire

Wow, this game really deserves its difficulty rating, I'm stumped... Thanks for the help in advance!!!
