I like big budget action stuff, provided the story is based of good ideas and has good writing. ID4 and Stargate are faovrites of mine. Godzilla was terriable and I haven't seen Universal Soilder so I'll with hold judgment. Sometimes I jst want to see stuff get blown up, and I like it when the good guys win.
ID4 is actually a big budget, big special effects 50's B-Movie. Aliens invade, break stuff, then we kill them. Thats what I went to the theater expecting and that what I got. Also Brent Spiner was great as the mad scientist dude.
I didn't see Stargate till it was on video, I forgot what the commercials were like but it was still a lot of fun. I am also a fan of the TV series. (It kind of a Trekish TV show, "seek out new life and new civilizations" and all that good stuff)
