It's actually not too difficult. Note the recurrence of the number 5. Now consider, for instance, the line that says that the king grouped them in rows of 13 and found that 5 were left over. What can you conclude about the number that is five less than the number of men? You can make similar conclusions about that number from the other lines.

Once you've made these conclusions, your multiplication tables should come in handy to help you determine the number that's five less than the number of men.
