Actually, since you have the pass ring, you've actually found and spent all FOUR gold coins outside the northern fortress. So forget about gold for now.

...flattened a feline?
...used that scroll you're carrying?
If so, you missed something in the tower. If not, you might want to get cracking on the other 3 tasks.
