First off... well, don't head south, then, silly.

Second off, there's a couple things you can still sell to Marion (don't take no for an answer) so go do that first.

Third off, I'd wager that they've probably let her out already. Check out some previously useless side streets near the Gate of Despair and knock on some doors. You might get an answer this time.
