 Hmmm... I prefer to envision a Celtic cross. The straight parts are roads, and you drive around the circle in a predetermined direction until you get to the road you'd like to get off at and you exit the circle... I think.
 
 I didn't know the US had them other than the bicycle knock-offs at UCD.
