GOA: Totally stuck (but isn't everyone??)

I'm hopelessly stuck in Llagimlyn. I've probably missed the simplest thing, but I'm having a total brain freeze. I need to buy the horse, but haven't got enough money. I only made 21 bronze at the pub, but others claimed to have made 25? I can't find any more coins anywhere, and read somewhere that you need to go through that locked door in the alley in Larosis. However, for the life of me I can't figure out how to open it! It's driving me insane...

What am I missing? Or am I just extremely daft? I also haven't figured out what to get out of the abandoned shack in my home town. It seems I just come out empty handed every time. Or does this matter later? And how do I get the hammer in the stables? So many questions...please, they of greater problem solving ability than I, help me!
