I've seen some messages talking about special rods/wands. I'm assuming there's something even better than fire/snow/poison wands. Funny thing is throughout my numerous travels through level 10 to get all the special equipment, I haven't seen any special rods or wands. Are there really special rods/wands and if so how many are we talking about here? Also, is there anything else that's really special other than the pair of "items of extra specialness" for each character, like a very special sword, a very special healing agent or anything like that?

I have found a plurality of once invokable items like scroll of pounding, restoration amulet, health amulet, reclaiming amulet, etc. They're pretty nice if you've got lower level characters, but I just sell them right back to the shop or drop them. My fighters/spellcasters don't need them to slaughter parties of monster or to help themselves (Last time I actually looked at the damage report, my assassin was hitting monsters for 10K+ damage each with a speed of around 16). Are there any really special and rare once invokable items? Maybe something that does the equivilent of Sorceror spell 35 or 36 would be nice, though not really helpful. Something that did the same thing as Death Key but much much more effectively would be nice, save me time tearing through level 10 :). I do have 2 items that I keep on my characters and don't equip--the salve of emulation and the health amulet. Are those what you are referring to other than that rod?
> As for a challenge game, I don't know about that. I don't think I'd find it too interesting to do some of those challenges I've seen listed like play the game only visiting Perrin, play the game without spells/spellcasting items (makes the back 3 essentially useless), play the game without dying, etc.

Those are the swords. As for the invokable items, they really are more useful for your back three, and even then their usefulness decreases as you accumulate SP. You might want to try invoking each one once just for curiosity's sake. You are still missing a rather nice Rod, though.

I can't imagine what item could be more useful in combat than an Assassin with 12+ Speed and a half-decent weapon. Of course, there comes a point when even Sorcerer spell 36 won't kill anything for three rounds, so there are always three characters who could benefit from the right item.

As an aside, when I played without spells, I only used a single character.
