Some things, like platypuses, pixies, and Republicans, have no purpose whatsoever. They simply exist. Ignore them and move on.

Often you are missing something obvious. You only buy things from the store owner three times, I think, and each time it is pretty clear that it can be used to buy something. Without knowing your inventory or location, it's hard to help you. But it's always a good idea to map the flower garden and explore EVERYWHERE!!
