Broadway is cordoned off on both sides of the street; barriers prevent people from crossing. However, one can always walk down to the Wall Street area and cross there, where there are no barricades. I had a slightly embarrassing encounter this morning when I asked a police officer how I can get across the street. He told me, "Just go that way." I turned to see that I just had to go twenty feet to my left and cross over.

Now this is weird. When I left the building for lunch, I had to go through TWO checkpoints where there were cops. There was one cop just outside my building and two cops just outside 111 Broadway -- so when I came back, I expected to have to go through both checkpoints. Nope. The cop in front my building opened up the barricade across the street so people could bypass the two-cop checkpoint. He didn't check my id because he was busy telling some woman that she couldn't walk down the middle of the street.
