Just stumbled across this link today.  It's the e-text version of an English-Portuguese phrasebook which was published in the late 19th century, a phrasebook whose author had the rather unusual distinction of not actually knowing any English.
  Not only that, he didn't have an actual English-Portuguese dictionary on hand, so he translated from Portuguese to French and then French to English using what materials were available.
  Needless to say, the results were hilarious; I'm tempted to call it the Zero Wing of the 19th century.
