More about songs

Back when I was a senior in high school, I auditioned for district chorus, which was a rather difficult-to-get-into choir composed of 200 or so high school students from central PA. All in all, I was pretty darn thrilled to get in, since very few people from our school ever had. (I was the only one that year.)

We spent a weekend at one school, staying with families in that town, and spent two full days practicing together before giving two concerts. It was, to be very blunt, an absolutely incredible experience. The choir was unbelieveable. I have a recording of our concert, now, and I listen to it every so often- more, lately, since we've been using Darien's dad's truck which has a tape player. :-}

So what I'm wondering is, is it really weird for me to listen to these same fifteen or so songs and be brought to tears by them every time? Is it strange that I'm still in complete awe and shock that I- little ole me- was part of a group that I can listen to now and be affected by so strongly?

This is something that has always bothered me. It's not just this particular collection of music- Handel's Messaiah (particularly the Hallelujah Chorus) and a bunch of other songs have the same effect. I don't get it. Why should a song make my cry?

Any thoughts?
