I also laugh at that title. It is as ironic to me as the German Democratic Republic was just over a decade ago.

And why do capitalist nations do anything? Even if there are moral reasons and ideals, most of the time, there is an economic interest there, too. Even the embargo on Cuba can come down to money if you want to break it down. Having the Soviets so close threatened our way of life. Completely cutting China off would do the same. Fighting a war where oil is involved had a lot of economic ramifications. And getting involved with a strict, Islamic nation could touch off a wave that could hurt us. Money is not always the primary issue but it is usually right near the top.
