Well, Mike and I just got back from the mountains.

The day had been clear all day, until the usual afternoon thunderstorm. On the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, where we live, almost every summer day is clear, with a thunderstorm which passes right over us in the afternoon. Rain rarely occurs... just some thunder, with the skies clearing by dinnertime.

Anyway, this happened again yesterday... you could tell the people who were visiting from out of state, because they were panicing and getting everything undercover before the storm erupted. Knowing nature's bluff, however, Mike and I fired up the grill, and cooked some brats which I had with horseradish.... yummy.

But by evening, the clouds were still hovering. No more thunder, but the view of the sky was blocked. I felt like someone had canceled Christmas.

I had given up hope on seeing the meteor shower, but suddenly, at ten pm, the cloud moved on, and the sky went from completely cloudy to clear in fifteen minutes.

So the meteor shower ruled, and I'm happy. There were lots of streakers, and two big explosions, which are my favorite. For a few minutes, around two a.m., I was seeing a shooting star every ten seconds. Then I saw none for fifteen minutes.

By the way, when we showed up at the campground, a lot of people were leaving because bears had been harassing the campers, including the people who had occupied our site the night before.

But we stayed anyway. Our neighbors said they were staying up all night, and they were seasoned campers, and said that the bears won't be a danger if we don't do anything stupid like leave our coolers laying around.
