When I dropped into Chat that day, I found that you, Ticia, Nyp, Faux Pas and wintermute were discussing "rinky-dink" as a term that means small-time and old-fashioned according to Merriam-Webster. (Should I blame Ticia then? :-) My own view was and is that language evolves as the needs and focus of its speakers change. So hey -- if the uncommon word "Rinky-dink" means something boring and insignificant, it's high time that *we* choose to stuff it chock full of meaning and goodness, right?
Ah, yes. I remember now. I was the one who looked it up and, to my great surprise, found that it actually means something.
And then, seeing what it means, I suggested that Sam could list it in the contronym section of "Fun With Words", since it obviously, to us, means almost the exact opposite. :-)
