I wouldn't base your decision on just one person's negative review. Just because Stephen didn't like Riven doesn't mean you won't. I can't really say much about it since I've never played it, but everyone I know who has played (Stephen excepted) thought it was pretty cool. Talk to a good sampling of people and get their opinions before you decide.
