because it's round and cut into wedges, does not
mean it's "pie". If you continue to refer to it
as such, I am going to have to ask you to return
 to the 1950s.

It nagged at me for *months* trying to imagine how
you could make a pizza pie - a pie crust with a
whole actual pizza inside? A pizza with an extra
pizza crust on top, like some kind of pizza
 sandwich?

That very closely describes a calzone. Imagine
taking a pizza, folding it in half, sealing it up,
then baking it. Oh, and brushing it periodically
with olive oil (the oil extracted from olives, not
 Popeye's love interest).

 > A standard savoury pie recipe containing vaguely
pizza-related ingredients like tomato, pepper and
onion? Eventually, I heard the name used again and
took the opportunity to ask "What the HECK is a
pizza pie?" I was a bit disappointed to learn it's
just a weird overseas term for A PIZZA.

Yeah, pretty much some kind of regional thing that
caught on for some silly reason.
