Well, my first dog was named Peggity (I never was sure how to spell that). We got the name from Charles Dickenson's book David Copperfeild (sp). It was the name of David's nanny growing up (or was she the maid?)

Now why did we give the dog this name? Well, my Mom didn't want a dog, so to help her get over that we agreed she could name it. Now in the story Peggity marries Mr. Barkus (again sp?), the gardener. My father read David Cooperfeild to me and my sister as a bed time story, and my Mom thought Mr. Barkus would be a great name for a dog. Then we went and got a female so 'Mr.' any thing was out.

The next dog we got on Columbus Day, so his name is Columbus. It fits him too, he loves to run off and go exploring.

Now my dad wants to get a dog and name it Please. You would sound so polite when you give it comands, "Sit Please. Roll over Please. Don't pee on the carpet Please!" His other idea is "D#m It."

My Uncle once suggested Dish or Bone, for the pun when you introduce the dog to some one. "This is my dog Bone. Have you seen my dog Dish?"

You could name a dog Cat and give it a complex.

Speed'the cat we got on Christmas Eve is Noel'ball
