The second time I was 60 miles from home and I figured it couldn't get any worst than that. So I had the engine completely overhauled and about a year later it happened again. It was worse, much worse, because this time I was at Rabbit Ears Pass, Colorado, about 1500 miles from home. After that, I started buying Subarus and Toyotas.> > > How"a long time ago"ard

That would have been about 1970 and the car was a 1965 Volkswagen Microbus. We were heavily loaded and the Rockies just proved too much for that little engine.
I've had a few Fords, too. A 1946 Club Coupe and a 1974 Mavrick. I don't buy Fords anymore, or Volkswagens either. I had a 1984 Nissan pickup with "the carburator from heck." I don't buy those anymore either. For me, it's nothing but Toyotas with an outside chance of another Subaru someday. I like cars that don't leave me parked beside the road. It's a bonus if they run great for 200,000 miles, drive great, and get good gas mileage. They don't have to be fast.
