> I have a friend who's dad had an '85 Celica. Apparantly, his dad ran over a big rock one day and tore a hole in the oilpan. All the oil drained out and the oil light came on. His dad, who is not a stupid man (he's a pediatric surgeon) apparantly thought that this light meant the car HAD oil. So he drove it 1,000 miles before the engine seized. Personally I'm impressed that it lasted that long ;) >
One time, I put a hole in my dad's oilpan. The next day, I saw the oil light come on, but it ALWAYS come on, but goes off a few seconds later. I didn't look again. Luckily I only drove it a few blocks and parked. My dad saw ALL of the oil in the garage and told me not to drive it again until he could get it fixed. I learned my lesson!
