  Absolutely true.  Case in point:  I'm on my way to work at 5:30am or so, doing 45 in a 35 zone.  An officer pulls me over, and the first thing he says is(what they always say), "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I responded, "Yes" and described the above. After he checked my record and such, he let me go indicating that "...since I knew what I did wrong, I would be more inclined to correct that action in the future." Whether that's actually true or not I won't discuss, but more importantly, he let me go because I admitted my guilt.
