It was an in-line overhead valve, engine that leaned to one side slightly. You couldn't wear one out. In those days the rule of thumb was that a 4 cylinder was good for about 60,000 miles without major work, a six was good for about 80,000 and a V8 could break 100,000. The old slant sixes often ran 120,000. They were 225 cubic inches, so not powerful, but they would last. My father had one that went 125,000 with terrible maintenance. The body was shot, but he sold it to a guy who wanted the engine! > Next time you hit the trail, come to Tennessee. We have great highways, beautiful scenery, and friendly people. You know, that brings up an interesting point. The engine in the car we have wasn't made by Crysler. It was actually built by Mitsubisi (that's probably spelt wrong but oh well). It also runs with only an 89 fuel level, which is nice because it's got over 210 000km on it. Also, the body itself is in almost perfect condition - no rust or anything. I'm actually amazed that it has lasted as long as it did so far actually. It had transmition problems, muffler problems, and even the block heater fell out the back once and roll onto the street (luckily we were close to home at that point - lots of smoke) Still, the engine works great and can go at 160km/h without stuggling (although you get rather lousy gas mileage at that rate). It's very powerful considering the car we have (the engine was designed as the 'extra large engine for a van' so....)
As for gas prices, I think that the best deals are in Prince Edward Island, Canada. You see, the prices there are extensivly regulated and it's only about 36c per litre. It annoys most of the gas industries, but the residents love it.
Ka"That car'll last until it crashes"z!
