Total Recall (1990)

What could potentially have been a great science fiction action flick is made downright laughable at times by unnecessarily graphic violence and ludicrous implausibilities. The special effects crew, for instance, seem to think that human skin can stretch to two or three times its normal size and not tear -- that it'll just pop back together and not a scratch or bruise would be found. And that's not the worst of it. It's a shame, too, because the actual story is original, exciting, and surprising, involving spies, intrigue, memories, and Mars. If you're a fan of science fiction and/or Arnold Schwarzenegger, and you're up to the daunting task of forgiving the film a barrage of blood and inanities, this one's for you.
