Reviews and Comments

Director Michael Mann did a fantastic job putting this true story on film. It's about Jeffrey Wigand (Russell Crowe), an ex-executive of a cigarette company, and his efforts to blow the whistle on unethical practices in the manufacturing of cigarettes. Al Pacino plays Lowell Bergman, a producer of 60 Minutes, who wants to get an interview with him on the show.

Recently, there have been a number of films made about this basic theme: a single individual fighting to do what's right, against shady and desperate corporation's will to the contrary. The Insider is one of the best of these, because it is broad enough to handle all the issues, because of its effective script, and because the focus is on intriguing characters portrayed with brilliant acting.
