The Indian In the Cupboard is a charming fantasy based on Lynne Reid Banks' childrens' book about a cupboard that can make toys come to life. And it's more than just a fantasy, too, but has important things to say about responsibility and the value of life. It's a fascinating, enchanting movie and may well entertain adults as well as children.

I have but one complaint about it. A throwaway line of dialogue has the Indian (a toy brought to life) stating that there is no God. It's never mentioned again, and it has no impact on the development of the character or the story. So why was it included? If the makers of this movie were going to include a line like that -- especially in a family film -- sure to upset many, they should have had a good dramatic reason for it.
