Stars and Stripes Forever (1952)

Reviews and Comments

Stars and Stripes Forever, a musical based on the life of the great American march composer John Philip Sousa, is fun and uplifting, sweet and touching. The unequaled Sousa marches are featured in all their glory -- they're simply a joy to hear. The movie fares less well as a biography, though, lacking meaningful insight into Sousa's character. Still, Clifton Webb turns in a delightful performance as Sousa, and the supporting cast holds their own.
