Reviews and Comments

What might have been a nondescript soapy drama is made vibrant with life by its stars and exotic setting. Clark Gable, Mary Astor, and Jean Harlow (in one of her precious few roles before her untimely death) are all in top form. The setting? Gable's rubber plantation in an African jungle. The story? Gable, who doesn't believe that the jungle is a place for a woman, gets tangled up with two, at opposite ends of the social hierarchy. Only trouble is, one of them is married, and one is of a questionable nature. This is a pleasant, amiable film -- the kind seldom made today.
