Julius Caesar (1953)

Reviews and Comments

This production of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar is fantastic. Film scholars may find it particularly intriguing, since it casts Marlon Brando as Marc Antony. Brando is famous for being the first "method" actor, a style counterpoint to so-called Shakespearean acting, but here he is doing Shakespeare. It earned him a well-deserved Oscar nomination, but veteran Shakespearean actors James Mason as Brutus and John Gielgud as Cassius are just as deserving. Great sets and photography add to the experience.
