Reviews and Comments

Remake of the classic 1950 version of Born Yesterday, this 1993 version is faithful to the characters but somehow doesn't make them click as brilliantly or thoughtfully as they do in the original. With subtle changes in the plot, Born Yesterday is closer in spirit to Pygmalion (a play better known the musical version, My Fair Lady) than to the 1950 film. John Goodman does a fine job as the shallow millionaire, but it's next to impossible for anyone to live up to Broderick Crawford's brilliant, multi-layered performance in the original. Melanie Griffith also does a good job in the Judy Holliday role, but Don Johnson, taking over for William Holden, fails to make much of an impression.
