Big Spender (2003)

Reviews and Comments

This story of a convict and a retired racehorse is pretty standard TV movie fare, with standard TV movie production values. I liked, however, that the story is grounded in reality. Another movie might have had the convict spontaneously develop the riding or training skills it takes years to learn, but this movie seems to understand horses and keeps its story real. Knowledgeable or not, however, the plot is so mechanical you can practically hear the gears grinding. Graham Greene is the saving grace: his performance is nicely low key and very likeable.
